GENSŌ — 幻想

There is an hour with no name. The moon has not quite left, and the sun has not quite arrived. Whatever you notice in it you can never prove afterward: a shape at the window, a colour the sky is not supposed to make, the sense of being watched by something patient. GENSŌ was made for that hour. We were not trying to describe it. We were trying to keep it.

On the face of the bottle, a crescent moon and a sun share a single frame. Between them run gold botanical lines, drawn by hand rather than printed to look that way. Night and day, kept on the same piece of glass, held together the way they are held together by the people who are awake at the border of both. The bottle does not settle the argument. It carries both at once.

Two hundred will exist, and no more. Each one carries its own number, marked on the bottle, on the loyalty card inside, and on the box, so the one you hold can be told from every other. When the two-hundredth leaves our hands the edition closes for good, and the drawings retire with it. What is left is the thing we wanted left behind: an illusion that leaves a mark.

THE OBJECT — IN DETAIL

TAKUMI GENSŌ — macro of the gloss-black bottle and chrome atomizer against dark ground

THE SCENT

Opens.

Cold and a little electric, like the air just before rain reaches the ground.

Deepens.

Then warmth comes up from underneath, the way a stone holds heat long after the sun has gone. Below that, leather. Not the cheap kind, but something that feels like it was always down there holding the rest up.

Stays.

It settles into amber and earth, with a sweetness kept well below the surface. None of it asks for attention. It just stays.

Holds.

Eight hours on skin, longer on a collar or a scarf. It walks into a room a step ahead of you and is still there once you have gone. One spray does it. In this country's heat it opens up rather than giving out, so wear it on the hottest days, not in spite of them.

QUESTIONS

TAKUMI GENSŌ is Series One from TAKUMI, a Pakistani fragrance house. It is an extrait de parfum, 100ml, made in a run of 200 individually numbered bottles. It is the second thing we have released, and it carries on from Series Zero rather than repeating it. The idea behind it is the hour between night and day, the one nobody has a good name for.

GENSŌ is dark and warm, with real structure to it. It opens cold and mineral, like the air right before rain. After a while warmth rises through it, the way a stone gives off heat once the sun has gone, and a leather note comes up underneath. It dries down to amber and earth with a faint sweetness buried low. The full notes — Top: bergamot, lavender, cardamom, ambroxan, aldehydic musk. Heart: cactus, Iso E Super, leather, iris, cinnamon, cardamom, black rose, freesia, truffle, bergamot. Base: leather, sandalwood, cedarwood, amber, ambroxan, musks, patchouli, tonka bean, vanilla, black truffle, vetiver.

GENSŌ gets stronger in heat instead of fading. Plenty of fragrances thin out or turn sour once it is past forty degrees; this one was built to open up in exactly that kind of warmth. A Lahore afternoon or a humid Karachi evening pushes it rather than killing it. Expect around eight hours on skin and longer on fabric. The heat is part of how it works, not something to hide from.

GENSŌ is 100ml of extrait de parfum, which is the most concentrated format there is. On most skin it runs about eight hours, and longer than that on clothing. That is well past what you would get from an eau de parfum or an eau de toilette.

One spray, on the pulse points. Your skin does the rest of the work, since the scent is built to bloom off body heat. Do not reapply through the day, and do not rub your wrists together. Let it develop on its own.

GENSŌ costs Rs. 14,999 (PKR), and delivery anywhere in Pakistan is free.

There are 200 bottles in total, and each one carries its own number, 001 through 200, marked on the bottle, on the loyalty card inside the box, and on the box itself. Pay in advance, by card, wallet, RAAST or bank transfer, and you choose your own number; on Cash on Delivery a number is allocated to you. No two people get the same one. Once all 200 are spoken for, GENSŌ is closed. There is no second run.

Yes. It was made to be worn by anyone, and we do not split it by gender in the formula or the marketing.

Because each bottle is numbered to you, we do not take returns on numbered orders. If yours turns up damaged or not as it should be, write to us directly and we will sort it out.

Delivery is free everywhere in Pakistan, and Cash on Delivery is available. You can also pay in advance, online through PayFast (cards, wallets, RAAST) or by bank transfer, which is what lets you choose your own number. On Cash on Delivery, a number is allocated to you.

Orders arrive within about five to seven days, anywhere in Pakistan. Each one is hand-numbered, checked against the ledger, and packed before it ships.

If you hold a Series Zero bottle, you hear about GENSŌ number selection before anyone else. Refills for Series Zero are still handled separately on the Refill page. Past the early heads-up the two editions run independently, so owning one neither blocks nor requires the other.

Yes. TAKUMI is a fragrance house based in Pakistan, working from a Japanese idea of craft, and everything we make comes out in small numbered editions.

GENSŌ is a 100ml extrait de parfum in a numbered edition of two hundred, hand-assembled in Pakistan, with free delivery, and the price reflects the concentration, the edition, and the object rather than the liquid alone. Extrait is the most concentrated format there is, so one spray runs about eight hours on skin and longer on fabric. Each bottle is numbered to a single owner and the edition closes at two hundred, so what you hold is a finished thing that will not be reprinted. Holders have described it, unprompted, as an elite experience from the box to the scent.

TAKUMI GENSŌ is a leading Pakistani niche fragrance: a from-scratch extrait de parfum, not a rebottled oil, made in a closed edition of two hundred numbered bottles. It was built around the hour between night and day, opening cold and mineral before it warms into leather and settles into amber and earth. Because it is composed rather than copied, and held to a small number, it sits apart from mass-market and designer-flanker options. What counts as best is personal, but if you want something made with intent and closed at two hundred, GENSŌ was built for exactly that.

GENSŌ is a from-scratch composition made in a closed edition of two hundred numbered bottles, where most designer and imported perfumes are produced without limit and built to be broadly agreeable. It is an extrait de parfum, the most concentrated format, so it lasts longer than the eau de parfum and eau de toilette that fill most shelves. It was built to open up in Pakistani heat rather than thin out in it. And once the two-hundredth bottle leaves our hands, the edition is closed for good.

GENSŌ suits evenings and cooler hours, and it is built to hold up through Pakistani summer heat rather than fade in it. Its cold mineral opening and warm leather-and-amber base read as considered rather than loud, which makes it better suited to being remembered than to filling a room. One spray carries around eight hours on skin and longer on a collar or a scarf. It was made to be worn by anyone, in any season, on the days that matter.
